Robsmap is a small personal project run by Rob Boyko. There are no accounts, no ads, no tracking cookies and no analytics. This page explains what the site does collect and where it goes.
What you put on the map
When you publish an entry, we store what you typed in the form: the name, description, address, pin location, times and other details. Entry pages are public, so anyone with the link can see them. If you leave Show it in Robsmap search ticked, anyone searching Robsmap can find the entry too. Don’t put anything in an entry you wouldn’t want to be public.
Each entry has a private edit link. We store only a scrambled (hashed) copy of its key, and the key travels in the part of the link browsers never send to a server, so it doesn’t reach us or our logs. When you delete an entry, it’s removed from the site straight away. Copies can remain in our server backups until those backups are deleted.
What stays in your browser
Robsmap remembers the entries you create, with their edit links, in your browser’s local storage so you can find them again under “Your entries on this device”. This never leaves your device. Clear your browser’s site data to remove it. Robsmap doesn’t set cookies.
“Use my current location” asks your browser for permission first. The location is only used to place the pin on the form and is saved only if you publish the entry.
Server logs
Like most websites, our web server records each request: your IP address, the time, the page address (which includes any search words and place you typed), the page you came from and your browser type. We use these logs to keep the site running and to stop abuse, and they’re deleted after 14 days. To limit abuse, the app also counts requests per IP address in memory for up to an hour.
Other services
- OpenStreetMap map tiles. Maps load directly from OpenStreetMap’s servers, so they see your IP address. See the OpenStreetMap Foundation privacy policy.
- Address and place search. When you search an address, or a city or neighborhood, our server looks it up with OpenStreetMap’s Nominatim service. It sends the words you typed, not your IP address.
- Ticketmaster. Search results include upcoming Ticketmaster events. Our server sends Ticketmaster your search words and the approximate area you searched, not your IP address, and keeps the results for a few minutes. Ticket links take you to Ticketmaster, where Ticketmaster’s privacy policy applies.
- Eventbrite and AdmitONE. When you paste an event link, our server fetches that one event to fill in the form. Nothing about you is sent.
- OpenStreetMap and Open Charge Map submissions. If you choose to submit an entry, its details are sent to that service. For OpenStreetMap you sign in on openstreetmap.org. We use the sign-in once to add your entry and don’t keep it.
We don’t sell or share your information with anyone else.
